Thailand has reported a significant increase in COVID

As of May 27, 2025, Thailand has reported a significant increase in COVID-19 cases. Between May 18 and 24, the country recorded 65,007 new infections and 8 deaths, bringing the total number of cases since January 1 to 204,965, with 51 fatalities .

• 20–29 years: 11,298 cases
• 60 years and older: 9,887 cases  
• Current Hospitalizations:
• Hospitalized patients: 3,544
• Recovering at home: 61,463 

The JN.1 variant, a sublineage of Omicron, remains the dominant strain in Thailand. It is known for its high transmissibility and often presents with mild or unnoticed symptoms .

In response to the surge, the Thai government has increased the production of antiviral medications, including favipiravir and molnupiravir, to manage the rising demand.

Health authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant, especially in high-risk areas and among vulnerable populations. Preventive measures such as mask-wearing, hand hygiene, and avoiding crowded places are strongly recommended.
