Step 1: Stay Calm & Try Calling It
- Use another phone to call or text your number.
- If someone finds it, they may answer or return it.
- You can also try WhatsApp or Telegram if you were active there.
Step 2: Use “Find My Device” by Google
- Go to Find My Device on a browser.
- Sign in with the Google account linked to your lost phone.
- You’ll see its last known location, battery level, and network.
- Choose one of these options:
- Play Sound – Rings the phone for 5 minutes, even if silent.
- Secure Device – Locks the phone and displays a message or contact number.
- Erase Device – Wipes all data remotely (only do this if recovery seems impossible).
Step 3: Change Your Passwords
- Immediately change your Google account password.
- Update passwords for:
- Banking apps
- Social media (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok)
- Email accounts
- Shopping apps (Shopee, Lazada, Amazon)
Step 4: Report to Your Carrier
- Call your mobile service provider (e.g., Digi, Maxis, Celcom).
- Ask them to block your SIM card to prevent misuse.
- Request a replacement SIM if needed.
Step 5: File a Police Report
- Especially important if your phone was stolen.
- Provide IMEI number (found on box or receipt).
- This helps in tracking and insurance claims.
Step 6: Notify Your Bank & Enable Alerts
- Inform your bank to monitor suspicious activity.
- Enable transaction alerts via email or SMS.
Step 7: Check Insurance or Warranty
- If you have device insurance, file a claim.
- Some credit cards also offer purchase protection.
Bonus Tip: Prepare for Next Time
- Enable Find My Device and location services.
- Use screen lock (PIN, fingerprint, or face unlock).
- Back up your data regularly to Google Drive or OneDrive.
