William Daniell was an English landscape and marine painter, and printmaker, notable for his work in aquatint. This aquatint captures the Suffolk House and its vicinities in very minute detail, probably after the painting of Captain Robert Smith. The engraving skill brings out the details of the vegetation and flora that could be seen in the foreground. There are cows and deers peacefully roaming around the compound. As usual with the works of British officers, the locals, in this case the cow herder, is minuscule in comparison to the larger architectural erection behind and the territorial landscape of the British colony.

Captain Robert Smith was a military engineer with the East India Company.
Between 1814-15, he was posted to Penang as Superintending Engineer.
During his brief sojourns in Penang, he produced an impressive series of landscape paintings of the island. Captain Robert Smith painted a romanticised view of this waterfall, in the form of its heaviest torrential and impressive view. As in a romanticist approach, we could observe how the artist placed an emphasis of the sublimity, beauty and the awe of nature. This is further heightened by the miniscule rendition of the artist shaded by his sepoy, capturing the grandeur of the fall himself.

This aquatint work was inscribed and dedicated to Alexander Kyd, a Lieutenant General of Engineers of the East India Company, and it was based on a painting of the same title by Captain Robert Smith. The building depicted could have been the water station that supplied fresh water to ships. We could see Mount Erskine in the background. Horses are bathing in the foreground, to recondition them in the hot tropical climate.
Also depicted is a bumboat carrying visitors ashore.

Hujan Rahmat was showed the artist's interest in spirituality, a common theme in his works. Using Expressionism to showcase the beauty of nature as his inspiration, the artist was adept at conveying a mixture of emotions through the distortion of form and the arrangement of colours. In the artwork above, roughly textured mounds of paint form thick lines that are flicked diagonally towards the upper corner of the frame. They create a sense of rhythm and movement. The vivid usage of colour plays a main role in attracting the viewers' attention, bringing delight and joy to the viewers.
The colours visualize the artist's feelings of gratefulness towards God for bringing rain to the people. The rain cools down the earth and also helps plants grow. Rain is seen as a symbol of the spiritual connection between nature and humans.
Hujan Rahmat ia menunjukkan minat artis dalam kerohanian, tema biasa dalam karyanya. Menggunakan Ekspresionisme untuk mempamerkan keindahan alam semula jadi sebagai inspirasi, artis itu mahir menyampaikan campuran emosi melalui penyelewengan bentuk dan susunan warna.
