I've been riding for 30 years now and there is one no-no that i see alot of beginners and intermediates make, and that is riding in the middle of the lane. NEVER ride in the middle of the lane! Always ride in either of the 2 "tracks" (the 2 respective tracks that a 4 wheeled vehicle makes), preferrably the inside track. This gives you control over your lane and will keep cars from encroaching into your lane. When you ride in the center of the lane you are in a vehicles blind spots that have no rear view mirror. Also, when it starts to rain, the center of the lane is the most slick as vehicle tires rarely see the middle of the road and thus it has more "grime".
Recap: Ride on the inside track (not curb side) to take control of your lane, stay visible to drivers, and better grip where the rubber meets the road. Also, never follow too closely. Adhere to this principle and you will enjoy many years of riding! -Cheers! -A

    Default Safe Riding

First time riders would do well to start by riding a dirt bike of reasonable size. This takes the element/distraction of "traffic" out of the equation and lets the rider focus on learning shifting, braking, turns, manouevers without the fear of being run over. The more control and confidence you have on dirt will transfer nicely to the street. Also, when choosing your first street machine, ensure that you are buying a bike that meets your skill set. Too many first timers go out and buy a machine that is way out of their comfort zone and either scare themselves out of riding or end up killing themself. Take a rider saftey course and have fun! -Cheers -A
